Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras
The Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras (BSYO), an education program of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra (BSO), gives qualified students ages 8 to 18 the opportunity to work with BSO musicians and gain performance experience in an encouraging and motivating environment. The BSYO comprise students who are invited, following an audition, to join one of three ensembles, the Prelude String Orchestra, the Prelude Wind Ensemble, and the Philharmonic Orchestra.
Spring auditions will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule.
Young People’s Concert
Every spring, the BSO with Maestro Lucas Richman and the winner of the Maine High School Concerto Competition present the Young People’s Concert for children in grades three to eight. Don’t miss this season’s concert – Monday, May 16, 2016 at 9:45 and 11:30 am, Collins Center for the Arts.
Concerts are open to public, private, and homeschooled children and chaperones; tickets are $3 each.
Open to all Maine high school students, the competition offers each year’s winners the chance of a lifetime – to perform with the full Bangor Symphony Orchestra for thousands of students and teachers at the Young People’s Concerts in May.
This year’s Maine High School Concerto Competition is set for Saturday, February 27, 2015, at 2 p.m., Minsky Recital Hall, School of Performing Arts, University of Maine.
Meet the Music Makers
Watch the excitement as an ensemble of Bangor Symphony Orchestra musicians bring the joy of live music into classrooms and communities throughout Maine. Meet the Music Makers is just one way the Symphony helps introduce classical music to the next generation and reach new audiences beyond Bangor.
Know Your Orchestra! Voucher Program
The Know Your Orchestra! Voucher Program is the BSO’s flagship accessibility initiative keeping Masterworks Concerts tickets affordable for families. Vouchers are distributed at area schools, libraries, and community centers. To get on the voucher distribution list, please contact Sarah McCarthy at 207.942.5555 ext.2 or e-mail email@example.com.
Instrument Petting Zoo
The BSO Instrument Petting Zoo travels to schools and BSO events around the state. Play the instruments the Bangor Symphony musicians play! Violin, clarinet, trombone…it’s all there! This interactive program is a great opportunity to play and hear the different sounds from the wide variety of musical instruments. Have fun discovering your musical talents.
