Audition Dates

Auditions for Prelude String Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra will be held on the following dates at the Bangor Arts Exchange, 193 Exchange Street:

  • Thursday, September 16th, 5 to 8pm
  • Sunday, September 19th, 12 to 5pm

Audition Requirements

Prelude Violin and Viola:
-D major scale, 1 or 2 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Prelude Cello and Bass:
-A Major Scale, 1 or 2 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Philharmonic Violin and Viola:
-G major scale, 2 or 3 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Philharmonic Cello and Bass:
-D Major Scale, 2 or 3 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Woodwinds and Brass auditioning for Philharmonic Orchestra:
-One scale with arpeggio (your choice)
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Percussionists auditioning for Philharmonic Orchestra must prepare excerpts from solo and/or etude repertoire on pitched and non-pitched instruments.

*In lieu of an in-person audition, musicians may elect to send in a pre-recorded audition video with scale, arpeggio, and a two minute prepared solo that best demonstrates their playing ability. However, the student will not be eligible for seat placement. Please email katie@bangorsymphony.org for more information.

Standard Tuition Details

Tuition for the Pre-Orchestra Program is $120 per student per year. Tuition for all other ensembles is $275 per student per year, or $150 per semester.

The BSYO is committed to ensuring that all musicians who successfully audition for membership in BSYO ensembles are able to participate, regardless of financial considerations. Thus, we offer tuition waivers, reductions, or special payment plans to families who demonstrate financial need through the Tuition Assistance Application available by request. For the 2021-22 season, we are also offering the following sibling discounts:

  • 2nd sibling: $165 (40% off)
  • 3rd sibling: $110 (60% off)
  • 4th sibling: $0 (free)
