BSO opens new Chamber Music Series

BANGOR, Maine – Bangor Symphony Orchestra will be partnering with Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness to deliver music and memories to Downtown Bangor. The first in a series of three free Chamber Music performances will take place at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness Center, 16 Central St. in Bangor, and is open to the public. Support for this series is provided in part by Versant Power, Bangor Savings Bank, and individual donors. Musicians from the Bangor Symphony Orchestra will perform a 45-minute chamber music concert, which will be followed by a short reception with refreshments.

The Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s Music and Wellness Program is the focus of the first performance in this series. The goals of the Music and Wellness program are to enhance the well-being of patients through targeted musical performances, contribute to a positive hospital environment for staff and visitors, and create community connections through music and conversation. This concert expands the program out of hospitals and into the community, making the healing power of music available to all. A wide variety of pieces have been selected for this concert, not only for their musical quality, but also for the stories and experiences that come with them.

Officials from the BSO say that music can play a significant role in healing and well-being. Music therapy has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety, reduce pain, improve mood and emotional well-being, and enhance sleep. As part of the music and wellness program in hospitals, musicians communicate with the patient and their families to assess their needs at the time of the visit. They make a significant impact on the patients not only by connecting through music, but also by making personal connections.

Additional concerts in this series are currently scheduled to occur on January 29, 2026 and April 23, 2026. Visit the Bangor Symphony Orchestra website for the most up to date information on events.
