Acclaimed violinist Kelly Hall-Thompkins brings Symphonic Glory to BSO’s 130th Season
BANGOR, Maine – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will present the second Masterworks concert in their 130th Season on November 16th at 3 pm at the Collins Center for the Arts. The BSO will be joined by violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins performing Wynton Marsalis’ Violin Concerto in D Major. The concert opens with William Grant Still’s Festive Overture and concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88, and will be conducted by BSO Music Director and Conductor Lucas Richman.
Joining the BSO for this performance will be violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins, winner of a Naumburg International Violin Competition Honorarium Prize and featured in the Smithsonian Museum for African-American History. Ms. Hall-Tompkins has appeared in Carnegie Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, at Lincoln Center, and all across the world, collaborating with the Symphonies of Dallas, Jacksonville, and Oakland, among others.
Music Director and Conductor Lucas Richman states, “I’m thrilled we’re able to bring Kelly to Bangor for a collaboration on this landmark American violin concerto. Drawing upon Wynton Marsalis’ diverse background in both traditional classical music and a multitude of jazz styles, the piece encapsulates the rich musical heritage of our country with the violin serving as our virtuosic guide.”
Ms. Hall-Tomkins will also be directing a Violin Masterclass at the Minsky Recital Hall on the University of Maine campus (Orono) at 3:00pm on Friday, November 14, 2025. This class will feature six student violinists from the University and the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras and is free and open to the public.
This concert is part of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s 2025-2026 Masterworks Season. Single tickets, starting at $18, are available at the Collins Center Ticket Website or by calling (207) 581-1755.
