Young People’s Concerts 2026: Belonging

Watch for free online HERE

Lucas Richman, Music Director and Conductor for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, has made it his mission to instill in young children the awareness of music as an integral part of their lives. This year’s concert theme is ā€œBelongingā€. The symphony orchestra is made up of many musicians, each of whom plays an important part in bringing a composer’s music to life. Maestro Richman will guide us through a program that demonstrates how each of those individual parts belong together, like the threads of a larger musical fabric.

Program:

Nancy Galbraith | A Festive Violet PulseĀ
Henry Purcell | Rondeau from Abdelazer Suite
Benjamin Britten | Young Person’s Guide to the OrchestraĀ
Jen Shepard, narrator
Edward Elgar | Concerto in E minor, Op. 85: Adagio; Moderato
Ā  Ā  Ā Ronan Sands, cello – Winner of the 2026 Maine High School Concerto CompetitionĀ
Johann Strauss II | Excerpt from The Blue Danube
John Williams | Liberty FanfareĀ

This 50 minute education and music program is supplemented with an instructional packet for students and teachers providing information about the orchestra and the selections that will be featured. Concerts are open to public, private, and homeschooled children.
