The Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras (BSYO), an education program of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra (BSO), gives qualified students ages 8 to 18 the opportunity to gain performance experience in an encouraging and motivating environment. The BSYO comprise students who are invited, following an audition, to join one of three ensembles: the Prelude String Orchestra, the Prelude Wind Ensemble, or the Philharmonic Orchestra. The Prelude String Orchestra (Sascha Zaburdaeva, conductor) provides a solid foundation for younger string players seeking to gain experience in an ensemble setting. Students should possess a basic level of musicianship and will develop the skills necessary to play in a full orchestra. The Prelude String Orchestra will rehearse and perform its own repertoire, and will combine with the Prelude Wind Ensemble on occasion.
The Prelude Wind Ensemble (Trevor Marcho, conductor) provides a solid foundation for younger woodwind and brass players seeking to gain experience in an ensemble setting. Students should possess a basic level of musicianship and will develop the skills necessary to play in a full orchestra. The Prelude Wind Ensemble will rehearse and perform its own repertoire, and will combine with the Prelude String Orchestra on occasion.
The Philharmonic Orchestra (Trevor Marcho and Sascha Zaburdaeva, conductors) is an advanced ensemble. Players should have a strong command of their instrument, possess an advanced level of musicianship and have a solid foundation of ensemble experience. Typical age range: 14-18
The application for the 2014-15 season is available for download below and must be postmarked by September 15, 2014. Auditions will be held on September 21, 2014.
