The eclecticism and theatricality of our new Music Director, Lucas Richman, will be highlighted as he leads the BSO in several of his favorite orchestral works, including Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, Copland's Lincoln Portrait and Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.

Dvorak and Sibelius
Sunday, November 14, 2010 - 3pm
Stefan Jackiw, violin | Edward Cumming, conductor

Witness a performance of Sibelius' Violin Concerto by Stefan Jackiw that critics have described as "spectacular" and "remarkable for its soaring lyricism." Guest conductor, Edward Cumming, completes the program with Beethoven's dramatic Coriolan Overture and Dvorak's rustic Symphony No. 8.

Romantic Rachmaninoff

2009 Cleveland International Piano Competition winner, Martina Filjak,ushers in the new year with the supremely romantic Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninoff, while Prokofiev's evocative Symphony No. 5 completes the program.

Orchestral Showcase

The magnificent members of BSO are featured as soloists in Ginastera's riveting Variaciones Concertantes, while the orchestra begins a new cycle of Beethoven symphonies with Maestro Richman directing the sweeping Symphony No. 2.

Hymns and Psalms

University of Maine Singers & Oratorio Society | Lucas Richman, conductor

Felix Mendelssohn's reverent setting of "Ein Feste Burg" in his Symphony No.5 (Reformation) balances a program of choral works that includes music by 12th century composer, Hildegard von Bingen, and Maestro Richman's own gospel inspired celebration of David's Psalms, In the Day When I Cried Out.
